Fresh, tasty, and cheap. Everything bug protein promised to be but failed to deliver on is here. Tastes like unsalted peanuts. I took a star away as there was a fair amount of non mealworm debris (sand, pumpkin seeds, and the occasional mealworm in its non larval stage) I’d strongly recommend straining and washing it before using it in food (also to get out any potential toxic heavy metals). Importantly though its not cut with any flies or other lesser insects. Edible raw but definitely worth cooking to really bring out the crunch. Great in stews and chili.

My chickens are a bit fussy (read, SPOILED) they don’t like black fly larva. Mealworms get them running. As free range hens, meal worms are the sure way to get them back into the pen at night. A small aluminum cup like an empty cat food can, when shaken, draws them in from quite a long ways away. An absolute must for training them .
